For anyone interested in this sort of thing, here's a map of Asmuly I drew in the mid-1990s for a game which never really took off. I'd probably re-draw it now, but someone here may find it useful. :|

I also include some brief notes I made at the time...

ASMULY

Asmuly is a country split into four 'states'. The DUCHIES, the largest area of the country, are nominally under the rule of King Raoul II who has his court in the city of Avern. The PONTIFICAL STATES are ruled by the Pontiff himself, Benedict XIV, who resides in Selentium. CALSTRASIA is ruled by the king of Algandy who has appointed Viceroy Paolo Romero to govern here. The last, and richest, state of Asmuly is the DUCHY OF FERROMAINE (occasionally called the Ferromaine League). Ferromaine is virtually independent from Asmuly and owes its phenomenal wealth to successful trade ventures.

The country is a morass of political alliances and feuds that change from year to year. This is a mercenary captain’s paradise; lots of small wars with relatively light casualties.

The main threat to Asmuly comes from the Muhasi’im Empire to the south, but no-one pays much attention to that!

THE ASMULIANS

The people of Asmuly are a proud lot. Insults MUST be avenged (which can mean anything from a fistfight to a duel, to war) and, as a result, people try to be polite to each other. Asmulians are also known for their fiery tempers, and an argument can easily get ‘out of hand.’

Asmulians judge each other very much by appearance and so take good care of how they look. Fashions come and go quite quickly, and it can be quite expensive to follow the latest trends. As characters may find, if you look like a slob everyone, even servants, will treat you with disdain.

I love that map, Starkad - did you use a mapping app to draw it or just a standard painting app?

Thanks. Erm... No. I used a pencil, rubber and a pen. And a ruler.

Just on here to add the world map I handed to players at the start of the game (this being a world where people could potentially buy maps). I include it so the surrounds of the Asmuly map make sense.
(I also remember to shrink the image, this time!)

Well, you have (MUCH) more artistic talent than I have!

They are both really good maps.

And you have way better IT skills than I do. I don't draw on my computer because (a) I only have MS Paint and that's a real pain, and (b) I can't work out how the other stuff works...

Glad you liked the maps. As I said, I'd probably re-do the Asmuly map if I had the time (I've done better), but someone might find it useful.

That's how I feel about my own maps - I really want to redo them 'cos I'm sure I can do better but they take so long to draw that other projects always take precedence (and I'd rather create new content than polish existing content).
