Chiemeka lays his staff at the entrance to the building, steps inside, and greets the women.

Kgosigadi Ngela handed the child to the old cook and regarded those before her.

" Two days ago, on the night of the full moon, I gave birth to my son. A storm began and the fires of the white house appeared between the lashing branches of the trees high on the slopes above the town. My husband immediately left to seek the house and demand of the Mother of Moons that she spare our child."

" As soon as he had departed, his wretched cousin
seized control of the long house and ejected myself and my child and some of our attendants. I took shelter here in my cook’s home".

" He has brought in a band of hired thugs from parts unknown to enforce his rule. He must have had this planned for some time...waiting on a time when my husband was ill or called away...."

“It gives me hope to see you here. I have never been in such sore need of help. My husband is gone, and I fear I will never see him again, and at daybreak, this terrible curse may steal my child from me as well!” Her voice cracks, and her eyes fill with tears.

“It is a terrible thing I must ask of you: please will you bring my husband back to me and save my child?”

Mthunzi claps at Kuublu's stirring speech, while considering whether it is good or ill fortune that has brought him to this point. Still, no point in looking back... and it maybe that being in the favour of such people has advantages.

"Kgosigadi Ngela, I pledge to aid Prince Kuublu in bringing about a favourable outcome."

Feeling happy with his promise (as it is suitably vague and open to interpretation - after all, he doesn't say who the outcome will be favourable for!), Mthunzi smiles his best smile at Kgosigadi Ngela.
