I think it's worth noting that Mungoda is not in all respects a direct analogy with Africa. Leaving aside the influence of the Kaikuhuran exiles etc, the In From The Cold scenario The Temple of the Lost God takes place in the advanced Aztec-like Tochel empire which is situated on "the Eastern edge of the Thanagost Peaks". I'm not sure how such a sophisticated civilisation fails to make a mention in the rule book, especially when it should be prominently visible on the maps, but eh.

Also, there were several complex indigenous civilisations in mediaeval Africa which, although perhaps not at the same level of technological sophistication as their counterparts in Asia, Europe, and the middle east, were far beyond "sharpened sticks". See:

Yup. And Kuublu ( and Mthunzi and rural Ammu) are from an analogue of one of those empires. There was iron work in africa for a very long time and the weapons were definetely of equivalent effectiveness though not of equivalent robustness ( mainly due to available types of ore and furnace technology). Obviously heavy armour would just get you killed quicker by the heat and humidity than by an enemy so it didn't really undergo much development beyond ceremonial gear. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_metallurgy_in_Africa

As for the broken spear, eh, you roll a 20 and thrust a spear at full force into granite....either the head will break off, the shaft will split or your wrist will do likewise. ;)

OOC - What had happened to the plants? Are they diseased or completely dead and/or turned to ash? Can they possibly be restored?

Blackened and dead, as if rotted.

Gold and Iron. A Walk in the Green.

Been wondering what does the Gold and Iron refer to? :) Presume the Walk in the Green refers to the jungle setting of Mungoda?

Gold you will get to.....later ( well its a campaign...so not much gold yet but there will be. ;) )

Like smiths in celtic, scandinavian and baltic legends West African ( and by extension Mungodan) smiths are seen as semi-mystical beings being 'married' to their forge and forming weapons and tools with the assistance of ancestor spirits and other forces. So Iron refers to both mystical powers and force of arms....both of which you will need.

A Walk in the Green is the chapter name and yes basically refers to a patrol in the jungle or forest. Inspired by I Was only 19 ( A Walk in the Light Green.) which is one of my favourite songs.

Looks like an invitation to enter. Kind of. Which if true, makes stealth unnecessary. Still, Mthunzi looking through the lit window might yield useful info. :)

Also, I can't find the post where Ammu 1st met the old chimp outside the town...

Good to know this isn't just a short quest. :) And that Ak'kulula might actually have a chance to reach Adepthood. :D

I just want to apologise to people for my lack of activity. I am struggling with some personal issues and leisure activities suffer in such situations. I'm going to try to commit to being more active in the game.

For my part I'm fine with the pace. Makes me feel less guilty when I can't get to the forum for a few days.

Hang in there Shaun.
