Pulgil, Ak'kulula and Chiemeka take shovels, picks and hoes and begin clearing the earth and roots over the stone portal. After an hour or so it is scraped back to bare stone and the companions take a short break before returning to work on dislodging the stone block that blocks the entrance.

It is sweaty, hard work but after an hour or so it is finally pried lose and thumps onto the undergrowth revealing a carved stone set of stairs and foul air spills forth from below.

The companions take time to rest and eat while the air clears and to ease the aches in their arms and legs from their efforts.

Kuublu has seen no sign of predators during his watch, whether animal or otherwise.....

Two hours later:
Torches are lit and Edwa takes on the task of carrying and maintaining the torches. Venturing a little way inside the companions see they are at the eastern end of a long arched corridor carved through the bedrock some four metres wide. A number of tall lithe figures depicting warriors are carved into the stone walls on the left wall. They stand about a depiction of a woman holding a bowl.

OOC: OK, marching order, preparations etc.

Kuublu advances in front. Shield and Javelin ready.

"Ah, is this the sacred bowl? The source of life and healing? Future generations will stand in awe of this depiction of a past age."

Chiemeka takes his place behind Kuublu, his staff in one hand, his lantern in the other and his shield on his back.

With folded arms Kuublu inspects the left wall. He wonders whether there is some significance, maybe it illustrates the location of the sacred bowl?

Chiemeka holds the lantern up so that he and Kuublu can study the carvings - are there any lettering or symbols that he can understand?

Ak'kulula looks wide-eyed at the carvings on the wall. He knows nothing of past history and legends, but these artifacts convey a powerful sense of a long forgotten time steeped in glory. Seeing the Prince take up his weapons and walk up front to inspect the symbolic carvings, the lad draws his machete and moves into position covering Kubluu's right flank. The party falls naturally into position, alert and ready for hostile encounters in these ancient tunnels.

OOC - suggested marching order:

Pulgil is happy to take the rear. Being especially alert to anything following.

Kuublu and Etwa examine the carvings with Etwa nodding along with Kuublus statements and questions.

" It could well be...wait....give me some water...."

Etwa took the waterskin that Chiemeka held and poured a small amount into the part of the bowl carving that projected from the wall.

As he did so the section of the carving depicting the woman slid backwards and then up revealing a small dark passageway.

Kuublu needs light. If one of the lantern bearers can follow, Kuublu will lead in...

Ak'kulula cocks his head and watches the dark passageway intently for a moment. Sensing nothing, he grips his weapon tightly and follows beside the Prince as Etwa brings up the light behind them...
