Uruka leaves, not wanting to confront intelligent undead.

The three men left the island quickly hurrying away through the rancid water leaving the island behind them.

A deep and swift river flows down from the north here. Presumably it leads into the dark area of jungle nearby and eventually joins the Great Egret River some miles to the east.

A few thin tendrils of the mist drift above the rushing water but the far bank seems clear.

The path continues along the rivers edge....

Uruka suggests to his companions to follow the river.

Some 40 or 50 metres on great dead banyan tree looms out of the mist. From its branches hangs a stark corpse, swinging on a rusted iron chain and hook.

He wears the emblem of the empire about his arm, his woolen cloak is torn at the shoulder to reveal a gaping blood-caked wound. There is no other mark of injury on him. One arm is twisted up behind him, its twisted fingers still clamped around a fine knobkerrie he had slung on his back. It seems he died before he had time to draw it. You find it strange that he did not reach for the other weapon he wears— a machete scabbarded at his belt, it would have been more accessible.

Kuublu removes the machete in case he really does reach for it and drops that on the floor before reaching for the knobkerrie. Guess its obvious he's dead... but that doesn't stop him from moving....

The body just swings on the rusted chain as Kuublu jostled it.

He held the knobkerrie in both hands and as a practiced warrior he noted it seemed too light for the ironwood it was made from. He grasped the butt of the carved club and found that the grip unscrewed. Looking within he found a roll of vellum with markings on it....if only he'd paid more attention to his lessons as a boy...

Kuublu holds up the vellum and asks those who are literate if they can help.

Chimeka takes the note to see if he can make any sense of it.

Uruka waits to see if the mage can read the scroll.
