Kuublu is curious. He has also had some bad experiences with water in recent days. He'll strike hard at the rocks with the butt of his ... assegai before crossing. Will drop off pretty much anything that isn't stuck on his person to lighten his load in case he does fall into the water. How far to cross it?

Wonder what you can get from a column of stone?

Uruka is interested in the column and expresses his desire to investigate to his companions.

Chiemeka stands ready to help Kuublu as he tests the first stepping stone.

Kuublu is immediately glad that he used his spear to test the stone as the spear goes straight through it as if it is not there and suddenly it and the other stones turn to silvery mist and drift away along the river.

There is a sudden peal of laughter from the far bank. A slender looking girl sits at the rivers edge, she has a great crown of wild hair and her eyes twinkle in the wan light. Though unclothed she seems little bothered by the chill spray from the river. Her legs hang in the water as she regards you.

“Do you know that you wander in someones farmland?”, she calls out. “I would not recommend it. He is apt to sow your bodies in his field.”

"We have seen it. I thought the dead would have preferred to rest. Will these souls never rest, doomed to wander these marshes forever?"

" Souls? I don't know of souls....he farms bones and some of those bones get back up. Perhaps their souls are already gone?"

" How would one know if such a thing was gone or never there to begin with?"

"If they were taken by hyenas and vultures that would be natural. But to be bound to this place, it seems they would never depart to join their ancestors. What do you know of the 'Master' of these lands?"

" Mortals call him ‘The Bone Farmer’ now, a shadow that the women of Orha use to frighten their disobedient children. But he was a king in this land a thousand years ago—the grim Dajan, warlord of five thousand men. When the imperials came from the west, Dajan put on bone paint and led his army in one bloody battle after another. He piled the skulls of slain enemies high at the foot of his throne.

Finally the First Bulls Horns came against him, with the legendary Avintu Lon Oublu at its head. His army was outmanoeuvred and broken, but Dajan himself escaped with his priests and a handful of veterans, and carried on the unrelenting ‘guerilla war’ against the invaders for many years.

When Dajan finally died, his priests and loyal warriors carried him up to a secluded valley in the jungled hills and laid his body to rest in a secret tomb. Five of the men, grown old with their king,
chose to remain there with him.

Dajan had died, but some part of him would not lie buried while outsiders ruled over the land of his birth. Perhaps mystical forces worked upon him, perhaps it was only his implacable warrior ways that could not allow him to rest—by whatever reason, he arose from his tomb and haunted the region thereabouts for many years.

Travellers learned to shun the vicinity of the valley, and many fireside tales were whispered of the bleak-visaged warrior that roamed the misty jungle hearabouts.

Four hundred years ago, a holy man...some say a god.... was lodging at the village now called Orha and heard these tales. Osain determined to put an end to the evil. Calling his followers together, he took them up into the hills. The mist, it is said, drew back from the jungle and Dajan hid in his barrow like an old leopard in its den. Wise Osain knew he could never drive out Dajan’s presence entirely, for he was one with the mists and stones of the land. Instead, he pent in the evil with an iron fence, and set a death seal upon the gate.

Since that day, Dajan has chafed at his imprisonment. He yearns for vengeance on all men."
, she finished with a giggle.

"A fine tale, a glimpse at what has past, and one to be remembered by the younger generations. If he cannot be killed, perhaps we should leave him here unless we are sure that we can put Dajan to rest. Quite disturbing that he refuses to acknowledge defeat, when many greater lords have yielded over the ages."

"My Ancestors fought to unite the lands, to bring an end to war within the Kingdoms and to ensure that rule is fair and for the benefit of the people. Even if Dajan has not yielded I am sure that his descendants have remained for generations amongst the living."

"We should depart this place. We must return to my father, he will know how to act, and perhaps stop this rebellion before the common folk suffer from war!"

Kuublu makes it clear to everyone of the importance of this mission to reach the house of Oublu and move against the other Chiefs. With time, they may be persuaded to stand down their armies before war starts.
