Bathwanda grinned, " No, I'll leave you boys to your game....try not to take to long we'll take it slow so you can catch us up."

With that she had the soldiers bracket the civilians and begin moving off slowly down the way.

.............

Jaafan, Kuublu and Uruka began following the beasts tracks up the slope, finding blood spatters along the way as they ascended....

Kuublu takes on an almost childish grin as he relives the hunting days of his youth. Before drilling recruits and having to organize things....

The companions began following the tracks up in the lee of the ridgeline, eventually they sighted a tumble of large stone slabs seemingly fallen from the outcrop above.

As they crouched in the bushes they saw that a large space had been excavated beneath the slabs forming a den of sorts...

Jaafan's first instinct was to stalk forward and declare himself loudly in the hopes the beast was inside and would emerge to taste his spear, but he glanced over at the others, remembering their timidity, and gestured for them to suggest some plan of action.

Seeing as no one else seemed to have any ideas, Jaafan stepped forward in front of the den and prepared his spear.

"In the name of the spirits of the Forrest and the Plains, come forth and meet your end beast!" He shouted toward the den.

No sooner had Jaafan spoke than there was a coughing growl ending on a high pitched note and a beast padded slowly out of the den and regarded him balefully, he was perplexed as he regarded it..its eyes of a level with his own and there being equal parts lion and hyena in its build...though much more muscular than both and shaggy of fur.

It did not charge or attack but seemed to be taking his measure.....

Jaafan bared his teeth in an animalistic smile as he leveled his spear toward the Kerit.

"Sit! And submit to your new master, Jaafan of the Ungor!" Jaafan commanded of the wild animal, "Or today you draw your last breaths!"

Kuublu, initially with a lowered spear watches. However, he takes up a flanking position, and itching to get stuck in.

"Animal domestication is an impossible task! Best start with a dog!"
