Jaafan climbs down from the tree, wincing as the blade wounds in his back and shoulder open with each step taken down, then points in the direction of the various groups of wildlife he'd spotted from his peak, "I would suggest we head north west, through the underbrush, climbing a tree every few hours to keep our bearings and avoid what wildlife we can. eventually we will reach grassland and my tribal lands, though the journey will be difficult. However, we former captives have no supplies, so hunting may become a necessity for food. It troubles me to intrude upon the spirits that often, but desperate times require desperate actions."

He gathers the recently freed men, women, and children together, trying to instruct and encourage them, "Stay behind these three men while we travel. I will bring up the rear and attempt to cover our tracks as best I can. Should the spirits smile upon us we may return to our own lands at the end of this trial."

He takes the spear and tries to find some way to sheath or tie the Volucreth blade to his hip.

OOC - Is the man that helped me cut my bonds with our group, or did he end up some where else?

Kuubl will lead. Once they are in a more 'secure' location he will distribute what little they have...

Some days previously....

Kuublu manages to collect some not too badly scorched bags of sorghum and some yams and dried strips of meat from the ruins, the well yields drinkable if somewhat cloudy water.

Jaafan manages to tuck the shining metal machete through the rough loin cloth and belt at his waist and wraps it in thick woody fronds collected as they move.

The former prisoners follow the trio in the lead who clear a path as best they can....

OOC: No, he is nowhere to be seen.

The food is well received and some of the women manage to also gather some munyii and tsenza though there are many plants in this forest that they do not recognise and are reticent to try novel foods while travelling.

Eventually evening comes and many of the children are too tired to continue.....

Uruka eats and just before dusk, he casts perception of sorcery.

Before they settle for the night, Chiemeka passes his hand over Jaafan's wounds and prays for Aset's healing power to restore the man to health.

Who's taking first watch? I'd rather take a later watch (after midnight) so that I'm at full MP strength.

Jaafan stares wide eyed as his wounds begin to seal themselves. He is startled by this strange magic from the strange man, but he quickly forces himself to accept the energy. The elders of his tribe spoke of such powers now and then, and the nearby shaman was rumored to have such skills. Perhaps it was a gift from the spirits. No matter how it was done, it was necessary for him to regain his strength after his escape from the volucreth. He nodded his thanks to the man, and then tucked in to the provided food.

”I will take second watch.” he says as he prepares for to sleep.

On his watch Jaafan will climb a nearby tree to get a better vantage point of the surrounding area and perhaps find some moonlight through the canopy to help him see.

OOC - still down 5 hp if there are leftovers just before midnight. Not a huge issue if there’s not. Thanks!

Kuublu took first watch though it was difficult to make anything out in the inky blackness beneath the trees and the thick undergrowth all around. Unlike the area around the Volucreth compound this was still thick jungle and though he could hear quite a lot he could see very little...as far as he could tell nothing approached the huddled group during his watch...

Kuublu woke Jaafan who climbed a tree for the duration of his watch, it was still pitch black but at least he could see vague movements among the undergrowth and plants. A group of rather squat creatures somewhat similar to warthogs but much higher at the shoulder approached the group but retreated again, and towards the end of his watch a huge creature reminiscent of a crocodile crossed with a rhino passed very close to the group but seemed set upon its way and did not turn towards them...though Jaafan wasn't sure exactly what he could have done if it had decided to do so.

Chiemeka was awoken and sat guard until the faint rays of the sun filtered their way through the trees, he saw and heard nothing during his watch but the dawn chorus of birds and bird-like things above.

As he moved to rouse the others there was a sudden scream of anguish from among the group and everyone was awake and on their feet. It was then he noted that two of the former prisoners were missing, a child of 8 years and a young man with an injured arm.

OOC:

13:24, Today: Damian May, for the NPC Kuublu, rolled 12 using 2d10.
13:24, Today: Damian May, for the NPC Jaafan, rolled 11 using 2d10.
13:24, Today: Damian May, for the NPC Chiemeka, rolled 12 using 2d10.

Kuublu asks if anyone heard anything during the night. He will also look for tracks.

Jaafan leapt from his slumber at the howl from the group of slaves, eyes darting about, and hand swiftly moving to his new spear.
