The three men took off at a run towards the huge trunk-walls of the compound, the huge beast responded with a surprised loud drumming sound followed by a deafening shriek. The massive head turned to follow them and then its immense body followed at speed.

Emerging from the forest on two muscular pillars of legs, pushing aside trees with a stealth and grace astonishing for its bulk, its broad, long tail sweeping behind, ten metres high from tip of saber-clawed toes to glittering green feathery crest, grey- and black-plumed head sporting a long snout with both a scimitar beak and long rows of knife-like teeth, two long black-feathered arms bobbing gently before it, The Death Eagle stepped out onto the denuded area around the compound and looked about for the men with its glittering amber eyes.

The trio crowded together up against one of the buttress trees where it joined the log wall, the Death Eagle stalked around the cleared area drumming loudly but after a few minutes it turned sharply west and lifted its beak to the air sniffing loudly before taking off at speed...

Eyes wide, Ouublu presses his hands on Urukas shoulder as he waits until he's sure its not coming back....

After a long while, he comments...

"I thought we had the bird problem..."

I figure we should... somehow figure out a way into this structure. Maybe just climb it, on the other side where we started the fire, that might keep them distracted...

Kuublu examines the giant tree he is hidden against and determines that it is probably climbable, though it will take time and not a little luck to do so...

Under the cover of darkness, and hoping that the place is free of big birds... Kuublu ascends first...

Kuublu managed to free-climb almost 50m up the tree before he found a spot to rest where a lower branch had fallen centuries before...

50m, must be too far to extend a rope, if we had one. He'll gesture to the others. Any indication how much further we should go?

Chiemeka climbs up to where Kuublu perches with a little more difficulty but still manages it easily, they are currently about 20m below the top of the log wall and the trees canopy appears to begin about 10m above that, from their current position they cannot see any of the woven wooden structures....but hopefully this means that they cannot be seen either....
