Chiemeka drowses by the fire, trying to follow the debate, but he has used more magic in the past few days than ever before and the tiredness is overwhelming.

Bathandwa laughed and grabbed Jaafan by the face, then looked around at the others, " Men......."

" Come. Let us test your worth.", she led Jaafan towards a mostly burned grain store,"

" Good Night, My Prince.", she called over her shoulder.

..............................................................................

In the morning preparations were made and everyone was woken early to begin the trip to Kiongozi and beyond.

Several days later and a few roadside camps behind them there was found, in the late morning, by those scouting ahead a large amount of blood and and signs of combat upon the road where it passed close to a rocky outcrop.

Kuublu notes Jaafans depleted condition. He silently goes on about his business, it is quite obvious who won judging by the bite marks, scratches, bruises as to who had been subservient. He almost comments on the 'wounds' but then holds his tongue, preferring not to ignore the utter devastation on his new party member.

Kuublu would be there to inspect, along with anyone who cares to join.

"Ambush. Did we lose a patrol?"

Jaafan grinned widely for most of the trip, each night during travel he resumed his advances anew.

When they reached the blood and signs of combat Jaafan drew out his spear as be moved forward toward the scene. He began to examine the site for any information about what might have happened, signs of how many combatants had walked away, and, starting on the side of the battlefield closest to the rocky outcropping, looked for tracks heading away.

Bathandwa cocked her head, " No, My Prince. This is not enough blood, and there are no patrols due this way now."

As Jaafan and the others searched the area they found some tracks in the earth, Uruka and Jaafan thought them similar to hyena tracks but they were the span of two mens hands wide.

Bathandwa nodded as she came over, " Nandi......the locals call it Kerit. Very large, cracks open skulls and eats the brain according to the villagers hereabouts.....rare though, have never heard of one near the trade road before."

"It seems the forest is coming to us. Something may be driving these beasts out of their natural habitat. Was there news of a major jungle fire or disease? Kerit you say?"

" The forest? Ah, no. This is a beast of the mountains and hills, it is not one of the Forest of Storms spawn."

"I have fought rabid predators when I set out. Seems this is another predator that has wandered into the lands of men. We should pursue it, at the least, interrupt its meal...."

"...but then... we are too vulnerable."
OOC: If nobody objects, lets go hunt a brain eater thingy...

Kuubl gives the party a glance and signals the others to proceed as before.

Jaafan made to follow the tracks of the Kerit, a vicious grin on his face, "A large, rare, beast that devours the brains of it's prey? A fine prize. It's hide will make a striking cloak I am certain. We must only remember to pay respects to its spirit and that of the mountains as well when we kill it."

he turned to Bathandwa as they prepared to depart, "And upon my return we shall have a celebration." he said, his waggling eyebrows accentuating his hungry, toothy smile.

The desire for the hunt gets the better of Kuublus senses.

"Fine. Then I will go as well. You will have its hide, and I will have its tusks. It shall not feast on innocents no more!"

Kuublu indicates to Bathwanda, I mean, Bathandwa to lead them on, of course she can join us if she wishes, if she can delegate that to another.
