Osric would need to know what normal was in order to answer that. Instead he scoffs his soup hungrily paying little attention to the crowd.

It has to be said, now that he has put his plan into words to somebody else, it does sound a little mad, but he tries to put such thoughts out of his mind. He's not entirely dim, nor even fanatically religious, it just seemed the most obvious solution to his problems at the time.

Simon stumbles into the Dandy Inn, cursing under his breath at the foul weather that has soaked through his heavy cloak, and heads straight to the fire. Adding to the soup a couple of carrots stolen from the library kitchen, he helps himself to a generous bowlful, lingering by the fire in an attempt to get warm while he scans the room for Rowan. Disappointed not to see Rowan, Simon does recognise Alistair (from his infrequent visits to he library) sitting at a table with some others, only one of whom Simon recognises: Eggdras, who has frequented some of the same less-reputable dockside establishments as Simon. Simon has enjoyed some of Eggdras' bawdy stories and they've had each other's backs in a couple of brawls so decides to head over, sure to be entertained one way or another.

Simon presses his way through the crowd to the bar to get a tray for his bowl and buy five jars of Dreadhollow's Best cider [5 pennies]. Once at the table, Simon nods at Alistair and Eggdras with a smile before offering everyone a cider and sitting in the vacant chair.

[OOC - Apologies for the late start...]

Eggdras's eyes lights up when he sees Simon. More so when he sees Simon order 5 drinks.

He grins at the 5 pints.

"Catching up are you? Think you can manage?"

As you continue your conversation (and please do), Emily is trying to work out what has attracted her attention... it takes a while, because the inn has become crowded enough that is difficult to see pass people, but eventually she realises that there's an awful lot of monks in the Inn. A surprising number of monks. All in blue robes. You do occasionally see these monks around town - they are called the Blue Friars and are well known for brewing cider and providing cheap housing the Long Market area, but you've never seen more than two of them together before - and there must be at least a dozen moving around the room right now. It's hard to get an exact count.

" Uh, why are their so many monks?", Emily queried, she rolled her eyes as the extra drinks appeared...the boys were going to be of even less use tonight than usual.

Eggdrass is already not in good shape and probably -3 to reflexes, defence, attack and all. However he is more than confident that he can take on any lambs or monks, or both.

"Maybe they are breeding! Wish the beers would do that!"

Eggdrass puts two pints of cider together and watches intently, for about 3 seconds before draining one of them.

At the girl's question, Simon looks around and just shrugs - so there are a few extra monks in the bar? It's a rainy day and it's warm in here; there are a thousand reasons the monks might have been congregating nearby and have sought shelter. Simon pays them no further attention and introduces himself to Osric, who coincidence has decided should be sat next to Simon.

Osric is not a complete stranger to strong ale, but he’s starting to drain it like the small beer he’s more used to, and after his long journey, it’s going to his head much faster than it should.

He suddenly feels very at ease with the friendliness of these strangers. Much more so than he has for a long time and not at all inclined to head back into the downpour. What would Brother Tomas make of this if he could see him now? Or that old blaggard Jenk?

[If Simon has any trace of regional accent remaining or otherwise touches on his background, Osric will pick up on it instantly. Willowmere is about fifteen miles from Notley, and one of his cousins in Bearhurst married a man from there. Actually, he always heard they were a rough lot out that way, but that all seems unimportant now.]
