Alistair briefly notes the monks and greets Osiric warmly before returning to his cider, keeping an eye on Eggdras to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid.

Simon's extensive practise of language has meant he's lost much of his original accent but chatting to Osric, and hearing his regional accent, causes Simon to subconsciously revert to his native dialect. Simon is aware of, but doesn't really know, the man Osric's cousin married but Simon always thought he was a bit shifty. Simon's father also once told him that the man once broke the frankpledge, but didn't share further details. From there the conversation turns to the bawdy scandal between the blacksmith and that travelling minstrel with the red hair that once came to play in the Bear & Crow - the elaborate details of which are mostly made up and have been embellished in the frequent retelling but soon have Osric and Simon in fits of laughter.

Emily left the boys to their chatter and slipped towards the door trying to over hear what the monks were talking about.

As Emily moves through the crowd, she counts 13 monks - she can't be sure that's a complete count but it's probably pretty close. Most of them are not speaking. They seem to be just standing around looking around, but in the area near the front door, and near the stairs, she does overhear two of them talking. But it's not in Elleslandic... she can't place the language.

In the middle of the laughter, Osric suddenly has a great idea...

Ye should all come with me y’know. All of ‘ee!

Think on it: An army of young folk, all marching gloriously to the Holy Land. No-one to tell us how things should be. Wilder sights than even this here city could ever hold. There be girls marching too, so's they say...

He looks round and only then notices that Emily has gone.

[Let’s bust up dreadnought’s carefully planned adventure and take this party to Chaubrette]

Simon can't hide his stunned and slightly horrified expression at the thought. He's grown used to the city and whilst the thought of exploring cities and cultures about which he has only read holds a certain appeal, he doesn't want to do it under the shadow of war.

I'm not sure what use I would be on the crusades - would I tickle the heathens to death with my quill? Allow me to be of better use here.

With that, Simon gets up, takes the tray, and heads to the bar to get four more ciders [4 pennies], one of for each of the people still at their table.

Alistair notices Emily slipping away (unless that's a STEALTH versus PERCEPTION thing, in which case he might not, and calls out to her, asking where she's going - maybe a little loudly, he is a bit drunk, after all. He heartily welcomes the cider from Simon with a grateful nod.

Emily looked over when Alistair called out, she put her palm to her forehead and abandoned any attempt to be inconspicuous, she decided to throw caution to the wind.

Tugging on one of the monks robes she adopted her best starving orphan face, a well practiced and very authentic guise, " Hello Mister, where you from then? Can you spare a copper?"
