Pushing along the passageway, you find yourselves on a balcony overlooking a vast circular hall full of shadows. You cannot see the far wall or the soaring roof above.

In the centre of the chamber, within a pillar of green light that streams down out of the darkness, waits a tall man on horseback. Both horse and rider wear great plates of decorated armour. Their heads are bowed as though in slumber, and on the man’s brow you see a golden crown. Fr. Bretwald crosses himself. "Vallandar. The Once and Eternal King."

Around Vallandar, twelve mighty swords stand balanced upon their points in a perfect circle.
Off to your right, stone steps sweep down to the floor of the hall. At the foot of the steps, your lanterns pick out the shining surface of a massive gold casket.

Will you go down—?

Despite his curiosity at Laila’s unexpected change of direction, Max, nevertheless pushes on. Finding himself awed by the impressive spectacle below, he turns to Bretwald, ‘what say you father? Do we go down?’

Calder stares in awe.
“King sleep? Treasure chest! We go?” He gushes all at once from his excitement.

Corvin is, for once, speechless in awe at the spectacle laid out before the party. He gazes reverently at the King, wondering what mighty magic of yore has led to this suspended state.

Laila looked down at the dead king then back at Lucky, and then across at Max with a raised eyebrow, " So whose heading down first?".

"It would be remiss, I say, should we not venture down, at what is sure to be the end of our adventure." says the Priest.

Lucky indicates that you should go down the steps.

"You'd make it down sure enough" says Bretwald, "but we'll make the stairs down in no time and with our limbs intact."

It does look to be at least a 30. ft drop.

“Perhaps the stairs are trapped, perhaps we draw lots and one of us heads down first?”

Max takes a deep breath. The thought of booby traps had also passed through his mind. Glancing back down at the steps he hardens his resolve, ‘unless there are any other volunteers, I’ll go first’. He double checks his crossbow in case the targets down below are more tangible than a hidden axe blade or pit trap.
