“Good show Max. Errr yes we’ll be right behind you in due course!” Corvin says trying to sound encouraging and not like a craven cur.

“I go with you,” Calder says, his desire to gain power and wealth overcoming his apprehension

Sten looks at Max "cover me" and starts heading down the stairs

Not wishing to be left behind Corvin falls into line and heads down

As you descend the steps, tatters of deepest shadow flit from the furthest recesses of the hall, clustering and coalescing on the steps in front of
you. Two darkly glittering eyes fix upon you as a manlike form takes shape. The sense of abiding malevolence descends like a pall. The figure drifts up towards you.
Its body and fluttering robes are murky and indistinct, but you see its white hands and hate-filled visage with a terrible clarity. It reaches back and seems to draw a
spectral sword from the empty air. "Morgrin" hisses Bretwald.

What do you do?

Max instinctively drops to a crouch and levels his crossbow as the apparition rises from the depths. Moments later logic tells him a metal bolt will be ineffective against this dweller of the underworld.

Calling over his shoulder, he vocalises loudly, ‘if anyone’s got an enchanted blade, now would be a good time to use it.’ After a pause he looks directly at Bretwald, ‘or maybe now might be an opportune moment to perform an exorcism father….’

He turns back to stare at this spirit from beyond the grave.

Hearing his friend’s words, Calder knows that his blade will be ineffective. He rolls over and grabs one of the swords stuck on the ground.

"We haven't the time to prepare for that. The foul traitor's spirit is nigh upon us."

Bretwald crosses himself. "Now is the time for those of true faith to stand steady."

Sten moves down the stairs stopping 5 m from the foul spectre
"Come get me then" he growls

Laila looked at Bretwald, " Who?"

She patted at her pouches and clothes for anything that would be of use against vaporous spirits and finding nothing legged it back towards the skeletons....

" I have oil...would fire harm the ghost?"
