Just a quick presentational suggestion - the forum groups headings take up a lot of space on the Board Index and I wondered if we could manage with fewer groups, along the lines of:

Administration Category (containing just the Admin forum)
Dragon Warriors Category (containing the discussion, games & campaigns, DW Sites and Files forums)
Play By Forum Category (containing online campaign forums)

Halves the number of categories and may make the forum display better on small form-factor devices like phones and tablets.

Thoughts?

Yes, that can be done. Except that it really is very important that the category and forum that exists solely so the Serpent King Games Fan Policy is on the front page remains as it is. I haven't been able to find a better way of displaying it prominently on the front page, and it does have to be.

I agree. I didn't really include that in my suggestion 'cos I couldn't think of a better way to display it, either, short of editing the PHP to insert the statement into the footer (although now you're a PHP wizard, I'm sure you could do if you wanted... ;))

I could - if I could work out which php file to edit. That's, surprisingly, one of the hardest things I'm finding with this - working out which one of the many files various things are located in!

I'll see if I can find out though, because that would be a better option.

You should just be able to put it at the bottom of index.php, if you wanted it to appear at the _very_ bottom of the page, but there might be some mileage in putting it just above the 'Who is Online' box. Makes it more visible, but I'm presuming from your comment that the index.php is basically a load of other includes from various other files?

In fairness, the SKG disclaimer is already at the bottom of the useful info on the page, so I'm not really bothered if it drops off the bottom of a small form-factor view - the important thing for me is that we get as many of the active forums on a single page.

I'll leave it in your capable hands :)

So what do people think of the changes?

It gets a thumbs-up from me. And I think the fact that we've had nearly 300 posts in about 3 weeks of the forum being live is a great response from the community.

Cheers Shaun, the effort's appreciated.

Yes, I thought the old fashioned forum and the increased complexity of using Yahoogroups was working against us.

I'm almost amused by the number of spammers from the Ukraine, Russia, and China who sign up. Hopefully I'll be able to stop them actually posting.
