Hi everybody , (for my English read y signature)
I am humble in my topic (even it is long)

My first point is I ve readen the books and pdf (again) . I am glad that this forum has been created .
It is difficult for old games (even very good) to be 20 years old .
There is such a competition with new games (often with a very good quality): mmorpg, videogames (Dragon age, the Witcher, Dragon's dogma...), succes turning out in rpg (Game of thrones)...

My second point is about the profession of elementalist, I am still not convinced of the new form in the rulebook. I have readen many topics
(dragon warriors wiki, light elementalist, the new raw power, dragonwars Yahoo group...etc)

I still believe he needs more versatility with more spells. So I started to write for having more spells for him (but no buffs for others adventurers as the demonist, I think it was not the idea of Dave Morris ).

The goal is to have around 60 spells at 10th level (as the sorcerer) and to give him a trick to heal himself (good idea found on dragon warriors wiki : healed from the elemental, an other idea)

Could you help me to find something on what I came across?:

source : dragonwars Yahoo group : topic "More errata - Elementalists" .
He said he created spells in this mesage and would put it on the "files" of the group .

I sure can, although they are written to conform to my house rules so wouldn't be immediately usable in the regular game; they wouldn't be too hard to adjust though, if anybody wants to do that.

I'll post them in the files section when I have a free minute.

Cheers,

-Kyle

Wodenkrait, he was very active. I think he and I saw the archery rules in a similar perspective. I think you should be careful about creating too many rules. I'm sure most people don't think a potential sapper profession to be very exciting, and what is an archer, without a bow? But these are limitations that you'd have to overcome as an adventurer. Like a sapper without a siege engine....

Hi, thanks for the answer.

It was not especially to add immediately some extra rules.

I just would like to find his contribution to a new elementalist spell book (because the profession could be improved)
He , apparently, shared it on the "dragwars group" (as wrote in his message)

, I think I found many ideas on the net and other rpg for elementalist spells,

but as he runned his own list during his own campaigns et seemed to be glad of the result , I would like to know if someone could share it, ))

THANK YOU ))

The Dragwars group is the predecessor to this one - this one has really been set up over the last week or so (only opening in the last couple of days) because the Dragwars group is now in what has become an oldfashioned format and I have doubts about the continuing existence of the yahoogroups platform, but while it's not intended it be used for new messages (it will be closed for posting fairly soon - I'm keeping it open for the moment, just in case, somebody trying to get from there to here, needs help, etc) the archives and files at the moment remain intact, and will as long as possible.

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/dragwars will take you there.

Checking the shared files area of the group, it does not look like Wodenkrait ever got around to uploading the file he referred to (he did upload some other things). The good news is that he posted only a few days ago, giving the impression he intended to sign up on this new group, so if we wait a few days, hopefully we can ask him if that file is available anywhere, and if he's willing to share it.

That said there should be something in the PB that will be of interest to the OP.

Here I am, still alive and kicking!

I think I never got around to uploading that list to the files area in the end because it contained some of the original copyrighted material from the books and I didn't want to violate board rules. I started editing it down but could never finished that task.

Maybe I could send the list as-is to a mod for an opinion as to whether it comprises fair use.

Cheers,

-Kyle

YAY!!!

I'm happy to take a look, sanitise the file, and upload it to the files area of this forum? My e-mail address is cobwebbeddragon at hotmail.co.uk.

Alternatively, you can do what I did for my edit of King Under the Forest, and encrypt the file with a password only someone with an official copy of the copyrighted material would know. I've had no push-back from SKG about making this file available in this way.

Hi kyle!
I would be glad to take a look on it. It would be very kind if you can confirm you can send the file (I think I pmed you). It s very difficult to make up balanced and attractive spells, :).

Thank you

Thanks for the interest all! I've given Hermes a copy of the list for now but will hold off on doing anything else, as I don't want to monopolise Cobwebbed Dragon's time or post something that can't be used by DW players in its current form; the list is in heavily house-rules format and is not very compatible with the standard rules.

Cheers,

-Kyle

I posted on the Yahoo forum some thoughts on Elementalists and the nature of magic.
In terms of making them more flexible, my ideas boil down to:
Choose main element
Choose only one subsidiary element
The second subsidiary element is derived from the Sorceror spell list, but each spell will behave with a main element twist (eg Dragonbreath for an Earth Elementalist would manifest as a hail of rocks and stones; for an Air it could be a blast of whiplashing wind or an arrow made of solid air; for a Water it could be a blast of ice; and so on).
Choose a reduced number of spells from the Sorceror list to be made available (maybe 2-3 spells/rank) -otherwise they could become overpowered).
Additionally, allow an Elementalist to cast spells of their main Element only of 2 ranks above their actual Rank but the cost to cast the spell is the spell rank in magic points. So, they could cast a 3rd rank spell as a 1st rank character but they would use up all their main spell MPs on one go.
Suggest a tiered structure:
Rank 1-3 can cast spells up to 3rd rank
Rank 4-5 can cast spells up to 5th rank
Rank 6-7 can cast spells up to 7th rank
Rank 8+ as per rules
Alternatively you could use Mystic spells (as only 4per rank they can cast any of them), which would be less book keeping.
As an aside, whichever version (Sor or Mys) you use is fine, but the PC has to describe how the spell is reflective of their element, given the surroundings they find themselves in - if they can't justify it as an elemental spell, they can't cast it!
