Much as I prefer Dragon Warriors, D&D does have some really great monsters (especially the homebrew stuff) and some good spells (maybe players could find non-canon spells in a grimoire somewhere). Does anyone have a reliable method of converting D&D stats to DW stats? Things such as 'to hit bonus' to ATTACK, AC to AF and DEFENCE, DEX modifiers to EVASION, damage reduction in spells as D&D has way to many HP, stuff like that.

Any takers?

I'm not touching this with a bargepole! LOL!

However, if there's an interesting mythos that comes laden with magical lore and monstrous enemies that you'd like to convert then you can give them whatever statistics and game effects that you like. Start with the narrative, not the THAC0 :).

If you want to judge the approximate combat strength of a denizen of nightmares that you've converted from a different game system, you can always enter the numbers on which you settle into my Rank Equivalence Calculator:

But why do you need yet another enemy the PCs can despatch with their swords?

I remember knocking something together ages ago. I got a copy of the D&D 3rd edition GM book to see what all the fuss was about, and although I wasn't particularly impressed, my crunch-liking instincts inspired me to develop some conversion rules for the fun of it.

The starting point comes from identifying known points of similarity between the two systems, such as the statistics of weapons, armour, and creatures found in both systems. From there, the way the statistics are used in each system is analysed and correlation is mapped where it exists.

One fundamental problem is that D&D combines defence and armour into a single characteristic (Armor Class), so even if we ignore all the other conceptual differences between the two systems (such as the different definitions of health/hit points, the different rank/class escalation mechanisms etc) the conversion will only ever be highly approximate. Nevertheless, with these caveats in mind let me dig up my conversion rules and I'll put them up.

Cheers,

-Kyle
