Welcome back! Always good to have a returning voice join our choir.

There is, although what I'd prefer is a generic "fighter" profession with the ability to specialise with skills of the mighty (learned earlier than rank 8). The Knight and Barbarian are specific exceptions to this because they have to be those things by virtual of their social class and therefore make good professions, but having a separate profession for something that can be learned as a skill (albeit to impressive levels) doesn't seem to me to be enough of a distinction to warrant a new profession. It's like the hunter coming along and suddenly none of the other professions can forage for food in the wilderness (I am, of course, stretching a point to prove a point, but you see what I mean - if you allow other professions to forage, you diminish the hunter, whereas before the hunter came along, you could assume that every vagrant adventurer would likely forage when they needed to)..

If you can have, say, the Assassin as a profession, you most certainly can have Archer. Archers aren't just dudes with particular skills. In many cultures archers were not just highly specialised in terms of their skills (acquired over a lifetime), but almost social sub-classes in their own right. The reason skills like Quick Shot are not available to other professions is simply that its not that easy to find somebody to teach it. If the GM allows it then there's no reason in principle why Warren Crump the Elementalist can't pick up some leet archery skills. However that's the exception, not the rule.

-Kyle

It's probably best you don't get me started on the Assassin profession  :o

b) I am working on a new spellbook (fanmade with the help of other fans) for improving the elementalist : I hope to finish it in february or march and it would double the number of spells if it interest you.

Developing a new spellbook for Elementalists is almost a minor cottage industry it seems, as I also (long ago) developed a different set of spells for Elementalists in an effort to deal with the profession's significant issues with power and balance. I also reimagined the underpinnings of Elementalism a little to make it feel a bit less like Sorcery b-sides. Happy to share.

Cheers,

Always good to see how others have attempted to balance the profession - feel free to upload it to the Files and Other Sundries board (http://forum.libraryofhiabuor.net/viewforum.php?f=14) or, if it's an ongoing project on which you'd like to get contributions, start a thread in Fan Projects (http://forum.libraryofhiabuor.net/viewforum.php?f=16).

Elementalist... I'd say leave it alone and work on the new professions. I think the rules of adventuring should be expanded to create some kind of terrain rules. I have some ideas about that, though not sure how people feel about combat slowing down and getting more complex. Then again, I started playing skyrim in the past two months and ain't got no time for anything.

Would the Archer profession have a grounding in all types of bow, or would they need to specialise in longbow, recurve, compound, etc, and how would they skill manifest itself? Either an Attack bonus with the bow or stating that non-Archer professions lose Attack when using a bow. Would crossbows still be available to all professions as they are less complex?

Is there a current DW mechanic for flammability? If not, the GM could just assign an object hit by a flaming arrow an on-the-fly 'flammability score' and rule that under that score on d10 or whatever results in the ignition of said object.

Theres a pdf out there with the rules. I think there is a weapon specializing mechanic.

I do think there should be a mechanism for burning. I know wfrp 1ed has it. I'd say for buildings its gm discretion. As to its contribution in combat, so far I can't think of any rules interpretations in any of the supplements.

Mind you, I don't have time to read them, I just buy them and back up every 3 months.
