I was reading the Demonologist Spellbook at http://www.cobwebbedforest.co.uk, and I was wondering whether The Demonologist chooses between Standard and Vile Demonologist at first rank, or as I had previously understood it, the Demonologist reached 4th Rank as a Sorcerer and then gained access to the Vile Demonologist spells at 5th Rank.

@CobwebbedDragon?

@CobwebbedDragon?

Do you have the Players' Guide, @Acoma?

The sorcerer can choose to become a demonologist at any point prior to achieving rank 5. Upon reaching rank 5, the demonologist no longer learns new sorcerer spells (but keeps the level 1-4 sorcerer spells he already knows). Instead, the demonologist learns demonology abilities.

However, the Players' Guide introduced new demonology spells for levels 1-4. Optionally, a sorcerer that becomes a demonologist at an earlier rank may choose to learn the demonology spells for his level instead of sorcery spells. The demonologist may only choose one or the other, not both.

If you have any questions, just post them here and I'll help clarify anything that I can. And, of course, thank you for checking out the Cobwebbed Forest - if there's anything you would like to see available on the site, just let me know.

No, I don't yet have the Player's Guide - is it on DriveThru or similar?

Ooh - CF suggestion: Easy reference sheet for the Necromancer profession on the Wiki, like you did with the Demonologist. That'd be good.

Details of all published materials and where to buy them are here:

I haven't done the Wiki professions simply because there was no easy criteria against which to determine which were of sufficient quality to bother, hence restricting myself to the published professions. They said, I can hardly refuse a direct request, so I'll look up the necromancer on the wiki and see what I can do. :)

I can condense the Necromancer stuff down for you and PM it - I think it's across a few pages at the moment.

I found this on the Wiki:

http://dragonwarriors.wikifoundry.com/page/Vile+Necromancer

If there's more to the necromancer profession, let me know, but it looks eminently condensable into a summary spell sheet and profession summary sheet.

Do you want the necromancer added to the NPC Generator (http://www.cobwebbedforest.co.uk/workshop/CharGen), too? That's a bit more work, but it depends how much you use the necromancer profession.

I think creating a Necromancer generator might cause a fair bit of hassle, as the spell they know would have to be generated, etc.

I could use similar algorithms to how skills are selected for other professions (which, admittedly, need some tweaking and will probably get overhauled when I rewrite the app).

Each rank, the necromancer will have a chance to learn one or more spells, weighted towards lower-level spells within the range of levels of spells they could cast at that rank.

For example, each rank, the necromancer learns 1-3 spells (50%/33%/16% perhaps) selected randomly from a list of spells they do not yet know, with weighting applied to lower-level spells to make them more likely to be found/learned. After the necromancer achieves 11th rank, and at every rank thereafter, they keep learning 1-3 spells per rank until they know all of their possible spells.

Once a Necromancer has cast Become Liche, can they still learn spells?

I haven't fully inwardly digested the Wiki page yet, but I'd see no reason why not and think it would be in keeping with the trope.

I always try to stay pretty faithful to the source material for each of the professions, though, so would ensure that the generator adhered as closely as possible to the published profession. Like with the mystic/adept, I'd probably just allocate an (increasing) percentage each rank for the necromancer to become a liche.
