Create Light Breeze was the original 1st Level Air Elementalist spell (DW 5, page 26), replaced by Cutting Power of the Mind in the new DW Rulebook.

In its original format, it read as follows:

1. CREATE LIGHT BREEZE
Range: 10m
Duration: Spell Expiry Roll applies

The caster can affect the course and strength of the air. By doing this he will be able to change the wind direction so that he can hear a whispered conversation at 10m, blow out candles or lanterns, or spread the progress of a fire in a particular direction. The caster may also use the spell to bring a pocketful of breathable air to an airless room, although he will not be able to use the spell to allow him to breathe underwater.

Darkness: As above, except that when reversed the breeze carries false rumours and the sounds of conspiratorial whispering to a person of the caster’s choice.

And for anyone that uses my quick-reference sheets, the first edition Air Elementalist's spell sheet is on page 6:

I understand the need for a better spell than Create Light Breeze, but Cutting Power of the Mind never really grabbed me. It's not even related to the element of air. What about a spell that sucked out all the air from a space and you had to make a roll or fall over?

In my campaign, I've rewritten all of the spellbooks to make them more balanced and consistent. However, with the elemental spells, I wanted to preserve the one-spell-per-level precedent so needed to create broad and useful spells at each level, which quickly exhausted the number of effects that were possible with purely physical elemental manifestations (especially as the simple conjuring of the element was something the elementer can do with raw power). So I extended the element's influence into associated domains, such as fire being associated with alacrity. Air would be symbolic of clarity, from which it is only a very short leap to tapping that element to gain a boost to one's intelligence score.

I don't suppose you could post or summarise your rewritten spellbooks could you? That'd be amazing.

I just checked the Cobwebbed Forest and they're not there yet. Probably something for me to visit in the near future, perhaps. Of course, I should point out, that these spells have been written to work with my slightly tweaked version of DW, not the canon edition so wouldn't directly translate to DW. I could certainly dig out the principles behind my approach to each of the different magicker professions' spells - I must have that document somewhere...

Watch this space!

What is the ethos behind your interpretation of DW?

Does https://www.cobwebbedforest.co.uk/home/introduction.php answer your question?
