Great short on some incredible archery skills that look like 'Feats' or special abilities from RPG's but were probably actual skills employed by elite archers through history.

Good video, arrow cutting and high rates of fire. I suppose this is a case of a 21st century man drawing on knowledge and experience over centuries. Saw it recently, not sure if it was recommended on FB or something.

I thought the Russell Crowe Robin Hood had some new elements, or at least thats how it felt. Time to put that archer profession together... maybe we should have a thread/competition for that.....

Maybe not an archer profession, but maybe instead a general fighting professional that can become a specialised archer as he develops (through branching or skills of the mighty).

HP of a Knight, combat proficiencies of a Barbarian, but without the social 'baggage' of either profession? At 4th rank, can specialise in a specific discipline (hunter, archer, assassin, cavalry, possibly a magical variant, etc.) or remain a generalist. Or just have a list of skills of the mighty that this fighter can start choosing at 4th rank. DW advancement can be quite slow, and Legend is a dangerous place - 4th rank is quite advanced enough, I think, to start awarding some special abilities to characters (but still save the good stuff for 8th and 12th rank!)

Please YES to an archer profession! If there's one profession missing from DW that meets the triple requirements of being historically accurate, fun to roleplay, and having a basis in myth and legend (small l) its the archer. Even if it meant eliminating warlocks and elementalists (I don't hate 'em but they are way more tacked on) I'd take an archer with some good skills of the mighty and a revision of the ranged combat rules any day!

A generic "man at arms" profession is a good idea too, of course.

Cheers,

MUST BE DONE!!!

Shouldn't be hard but I'm just getting ready to change jobs. Based on the original book 1 professions, I want to make it fast and easy. One simple concept I'd make is that s/m/l rules will be replaced with point blank/s/m where point blank is probably +4 to ATTACK for shooting.

Did anyone win the arguments about strength bonuses to shooting? Does it feel right that a berserking barbarian gets to drool and curse and get a bonus to ATTACK for shooting? I think Bloodrage prevents use of missile weapons but how would you apply this to bows, crossbows and thrown weapons?

I don't think the Archer profession needs fluff to justify its existence....

A generic warrior... hm.. maybe the Knight profession already resolves this. They don't necessarily need to dress up in plate. Its like the fighter profession, of course its best if you give them all the best hardware, but what makes a knight more than any other warrior is their values. Before knighting a lot of generic fighters would share the same skills. Perhaps we can merely rename the 'Knight' profession?

How about light infantry for barbarian and heavy infantry for the knight? that would represent the barbarians reliance on terrain whereas the knight just uses better hardware....
