Discuss. :D

That was a joke. No, it's not a myth.

However, in all seriousness it will appear soon, so what are your expections for it - your fears, doubts, hopes and dreams, etc.?

'A myth is a pure and absolute imagination; a legend has a basis of fact, but amplifies, abridges or modifies that basis at pleasure.'
Rawlinson

The Player's Book is a legend, which has been built up by our many years of expectation. We have seen the front page cover and heard few snippets, and based on that I hope it will contain:

Expansions on Barbarians
The rehabilitation of the Elementalist profession
An awesome but realistic (and not corny) take on the rogue profession
Extensive new gameworld resources
Single-mechanic rationalisation of basic game rules
Archery rules
Archer profession
Terrain rules
Sapper profession
And basically a fix to every problem with the game we've ever had that will satisfy everybody's differing needs and preferences.

However when it finally arrives it might turn out to be a single page torn out of a school notebook with the words "Players Guide" written on it in biro (and "guide" misspelt) and a picture of stick men soldiers battling stick man zombies drawn underneath.

Cheers,

-Kyle

Don't scare us like that!

I hope it's well received. I think it should be, but I worry some people may expect it to cover things it doesn't.

You're right. The sapper is such an essential addition to DW that it deserves its own standalone supplement. I'm thinking 192 pages hardcover, richly illustrated in full colour with a complementary DVD-ROM.

Cheers,

-Kyle

Well, I feel confident in saying that Kyle will be at least partially satisfied.

I've been waiting so long for any new DW material that I'll probably just be happy with anything, even if it's a load of dross. From speculations and rumours, I'm preparing myself to be uninspired by it though.

But if I had a wish list? I'd like to see the professions expanded, not with more rules, but with a much-needed social context and magickers expanded with the philosophies behind each magic type, for example. Something that builds on the unique feel of Legend, permeated as it is with folk lore, suspicion and fear, and stitches it more closely to the rules.

And a skills system would be nice. Something optional and unobtrusive (possibly something like http://cobwebbedforest.co.uk/library/skills.php, only better because I'll be paying money for it ;) ).

Either way, my only real hope for it is that it's released...

Heh, trying not to overreact since I've had a few wines at this moment. I'm also ... I need to do the Archer rules, the merchant class.. and what would be most challenging of all is the Jester rules... I think it could work if its not all numbers and if I can compile some jokes that can readily be deployed at short notice, jokes that work.

More challenging than creating terrain rules and a sapper profession from scratch....

Oh, and how about some very sugges... 'inspiring' cover art?

They have said it will be PDF and POD only since they do not have the space to store physical copies.
