Tugging on one of the monks robes she adopted her best starving orphan face, a well practiced and very authentic guise, " Hello Mister, where you from then? Can you spare a copper?"

The man seems a little shocked at this and shies away from your touch. His pale face looks down at you from beneath his cowl. He's a very pretty young man - or maybe a woman, despite the robes. He reaches out and hands you a coin but you didn't see where it came from - it's like the conjurers trick you've seen when a man pulls a coin out of seemingly thin air. "The God bless you, girl." he says in heavily accented Elleslandic.

The coin in your hand is solid gold, which almost distracts you from the realisation that there is a sleeve beneath the sleeve of his robe - a sleeve of mail.

Emilys eyes went very wide indeed as her fingers closed over the gold coin.

" Bless you, Sir."

She scurried over to the table and sat down tucking the coin into her secret place.

She looked around at the others and decided to focus on the one who was not drinking themselves under the table.

" Country Mouse, what do Chorbretans sound like? And do monks usually wear maille under their robes?"

"...Chaubretians! We parley Elleslandaise!"

LaCharonne is of Chaubretian descent but he never grasped the language of his fathers and isn't of much help.

(Gee, how about basic in Chaubretian?)

Sure - Eggdras can have basic in Chaubretian... or as the Chaubrettan's call it, Beaulangue :)

[ Ah. Was assuming that this meant Simon, but realise this is probably Osric. If so:

Never met a foreigner. Brothers up St Wisdun's didn't wear mail, that's for sure. They be fighting monks then? He looks over. He's not seen crusaders since his father and brothers left in a ragtag levy five years earlier, and is curious to see, if that is what these could be.
]

Osric certainly had no intention of drinking himself under the table, although he is enjoying the company immensely and starting to waver. He's also slightly nervous about the number of drinks being thrust in front of him when he has not yet contributed.

He has no idea what passage on a ship costs, and is aware that once his meagre purse is empty he's done for. He's resolved to get the next one in as seems proper, but is hoping that might be the end of it.

[ OOC - I interpreted the "country mouse" to be Osric - glad you piped up, otherwise there could have been a long pause! ]

Simon overhears the conversation between Osirc and the girl that's rejoined their table and interjects, speaking Elleslandic but with an over-the-top Chaubrettan accent

I speak a little Beaulangue but I've never been to Chaubrette, nor could I comment on their monastic traditions.

Simon continues, but now without the outrageous accent.

I certainly wouldn't be wanting to wear maille in this weather, though, so can't blame them for seeking shelter here.

Simon considers introducing himself to one of the monks - Ongus can be a confusing place, even for people that have lived here years and perhaps they are looking for a guide who can speak their language? Simon quickly dismisses the thought, returning to his cider and the conversation with his companions - some new and some familiar. Simon doesn't relish the thought of guiding anyone around the city in this weather.

Sipping his cider slowly, Simon hopes Rowan shows up soon and is thinking his next drink should be one of Mistress Hildegarde's Dandelion & Burdocks, for which he has quite a taste (she brews it very sweet); there are still many hours of merry-making remaining for which he wants to keep a clear head.

Emily compared Simons accent to the monk she spoke with to see if they matched.

Now most of you are paying some attention to the monks, it's starting to look like they are taking up deliberate positions in the inn, with at least one standing next to every door and window facing into the body of the inn. This means two have taken up position quite near you - one has actually had to squeeze past your corner table.

The accent did not sound like Simon's Chaubrettan, but thought you cannot identify exactly where it came from, it is an accent you have heard before - a reasonably common one in this cosmopolitan city - you don't know its precise location but you're guessing it's somewhere that produces a lot of sailors.

Osric stands up to allow him past with a slight bow, and politely moves his staff and drying bedroll out of his way.

And since he's then standing right by them.

Begging your pardon, Father, are ye by any chance a Palmer?

If allowed to continue, Osric will ask if he knows anything of the fighting monks of the Holy Land?

Emilys self preservation instincts took over, this wasn't the first time she'd had to clever her way out of a room where men were blocking the doors.

" Eggdras! Sober the hell up. Things are about to get rather violent."

Emily had spent quite a bit of time in....and if truth be told, on....this establishment...she wracked her brain for a way out that wasn't a door or window...

Scanning for exits. Perception.: 1d20 2
