I saw that years ago a set of miniatures of demons were released based on the Demon articles that were done for White Dwarf for Runequest and were latter put into Dragon Warriors in IFTC and the PG. (The Fabled Lands blog also as most already know the text and most of the artwork for the White Dwarf magazine articles in a series of blog posts.) The set had a small scenario called The Best Laid Plans by Dave Morris. The miniature set was Box 7 (v2): Demons and it was part of the Runequest line of sets that were done that Citadel did.

I found a blog post that talked about the old Citadel boxed sets and even had pictures of small scenario inserts that were clear and big enough when you clicked on the pictures in the post to let you read the entire insert, see maps, etc. on them. Other sites had good pictures of the miniatures some painted and some not painted.

So I'm wondering if The Best Laid Plans scenario that Dave Morris had in the set would work in the Dragon Warriors setting or if it ought to be ported over in the DW setting since all the demons in it are in the DW universe now. The scenario cold easily fit in Krarth.

I've been looking at this - and, yes, I think it could be ported to DW quite easily and Krarth would be a good fit - although I might go with Yggdras or Wyrd.

For anyone interested, the article is here:

Depending on how you like Hunter's Moon, this could make an interesting alternative ending, with Karvala as the demonologist in the scenario.

The scenario converts quite easily to DW (based as it is, as you say, on the same rules that spawned DW's demonology rules) and whilst I have left the placenames of Deliverance and the Issaries River the same (as a nod to https://fabledlands.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... -next.html, the intended location of the scenario, had Dragon Warriors made it to book 7), I have adjusted some of the narrative text to indicate that the characters are located in Krarth to keep it within the known Lands of Legend. Krarth is suitably sparsely described for it to be able to accommodate a city called Deliverance and a river called the Issaries :).

Dave has given me his permission to share this more widely so it's now available as a download from the Cobwebbed Forest in the usual place for all the adventures Dave Morris has shared in the public domain:

https://www.cobwebbedforest.co.uk/libra ... ntures.php

Feedback welcome - there's still time to remove any typos or tweak any of the content before it gets a guest mention on Dave's blog.

Looks good.

Could the corresponding image of each demon be part of each stat block? Dave had the old images in good quality for most of the demons in the scenario in the creature stats PDF in the Fabled Lands Blog posting of the Lone and Level Sands.
.
A image of the flyer for the old miniature set has the other demons in it.

Out of curiosity, what program did you use for the hex map?

One thing that would be cool as maybe a separate download or to make when running the scenario would be paper minis of the demons. The Trifold generator may be of help and so could using Profantasy's Character Artist to get blank templates to use or to just import images of the demons into as symbols. I'm pretty sure that some PSD paper mini templates can be found too.

Trifold generator site is at this site if you don't have the link for it.:

I have already used some other art without permission, so what's a few more pictures? I'll have to see what that does to the layout - at the moment, the demons' stats fit nicely onto 3 pages and, when I printed the scenario out as an A5 booklet, the accompanying text was already small. I'll have a play and see whether I like it or not.

Ordinarily, I use the Campaign Cartographer suite for all my maps but, as this was just a quick and dirty hex map, I used the free version of Hexographer for this.

Interesting idea. I had thought to add some reference sheets that would make tracking the battle easier, as there could be a lot of moving parts for the GM to remember in a battle of this size, but I really like the idea of paper trifolds. I'll have a play with the images and that generator you to see what I can produce - if it looks OK, then I'll make them available. I do have Character Artist, too, so might dust that off (not used it in ages...) to see if I can sculpt something a little bit more special.

Whilst I am often proud of my written work, my artistry leaves a lot to be desired, so my hopes aren't that high that I'll produce anything I'm confident enough to share. Of course, if anyone else produces something they'd like to accompany this adventure (or any of them, for that matter), I'd be happy to make it available.

If you need any stuff from the Pro version of Hexographer done to the map let me know. I have the Pro version of it and also of Worldographer. So changing any of the icons to other pngs is something I can do along with other stuff.

Also, since you used Hexographer you might want to add a small sentence that map was created using Hexographer in a credits section.

See this for info on use:

I think White Dwarf had good pictures of the other demons that could be used for art aside from the ones Dave gave art fom in the Lone and Level Sands creatures PDF.

Thanks for the offer - were I to do this properly, I'd probably use Campaign Cartographer but if you want to produce a whizzier map, I'll happily host/attribute/share it from my site - the one I did was very quick and dirty. This project was more to ensure this little nugget of Dave's didn't get lost than it was to produce something publication-worthy.

There is no credits section (it's not really a "proper" publication) and I wouldn't credit them even if there were, any more than I would give any credit to Microsoft for the words I typed or to the FileZilla Project for the documents I upload to my website. The number of applications and application services I consume in the production and distribution of each digital artefact would require another, much fatter, document to list and it would be unsavoury to single one out over the others.

There's some great demon art out there - the image I used on the front cover of The Best Laid Plans doesn't really represent any particular Dragon Warriors demon but it had that surreal nightmare quality that I think should accompany such entities. I have semi-started a Hellion generator in the workshop on my website that I'll one day get around to adding a randomly generated appearance, but that is just one of many projects I've started and haven't finished :(.

Did another read through last night of the DW conversion scenario and was wondering what happened to the Pazuzu that was in the orginal scenario? It isn't in the DW version for some reason. I know that in Dragon Warriors it in't a demon but a supernatural creature according to the Bestiary where its detailed stats are. Some sort of explanation could be made as to why it is one of the "demons" or fighting with them.

Also, the scenario looks like it might be a nice way to teach players the DW combat system by using some pre-made characters.
