The brave party head along the trail, onwards to where the mysterious figures are waiting. Corvin takes the same route, just off the trail, dashing between bushes and bracken. OOC - no Stealth roll needed, thank you. As you near the party you see that there are five men stood around, clad in black cloaks, all with sturdy weapons at their hips. They are deep in discussion with another man, clad in a richer quality cloak, sat astride a midnight steed. They finish their conversation as you reach them. You hear the tail end. "Aye, it'll give me great pleasure to get old Mugger and use his innards to make his fences look oh-so-pretty. Hur. Hur. Hur." They turn to look at you, hands reaching for their weapons. The horseman pulls his hood back. You hear a gasp from behind you. It comes from Bretwald. "Wolfeye!" |

Lucky gestures to Sten as subtly as possible once he has his attention, trying to get him to hang back with the group and stay in formation. He glances at his companions, looking for a sign of what to do next. He has his shield and spear in hand. |

The men appear to be less well-outfitted than the rider. Their armour, if they have any, is almost piecemeal, from what you can see poking through their dusty black cloaks. No shields. The rider's cloak, by contrast, appears of a richer fabric, and you get the feeling that beneath it lies some armour of better condition and substance than that worn by his fellows. You tell by the rider's cast that he may well be of Mercanian origin. His fellows are of a more mixed bag and origin. The one you heard last speak almost has a local accent. |

Calder advances to protect his friends. He calls out to the rider,”You are?” Despite his relatively poor linguistic skills, years of fighting and training in arms have made him instinctively move his hands to near his weapons, ready to defend or attack. |

Corvin creeps as close as he can to the group without attracting attention. He waits and watches, ready to hopefully surprise their foes should matters turn ugly. |
