The pillar of green light flickers as Max, Laila and Calder take swords and race back to the stairs.
Those that look back may be shocked to see their shadows remain, fixed in the position that they were as the swords were taken. The shadows that flit behind them seem ragged and faded.
Sten and Drystan step forward to meet the foul Morgrin face to spectral visage. Cramped on the stairs as they are, they do their best.
Sten, Serpent-Tongue's sword in hand, launches a savage attack against the specter and strikes a mighty blow. The creature's sly smile slips and he hisses his hate at Sten who, much to his surprise as a bolt of cold travels up his sword arm, has the most strange urge to hiss back.
Master Corvin, backing up his fellows, feels his Hold Off the Dead spell falter under the sheet power of Morgrin's presence.
Drystan, his thin frame magically enhanced, whacks at the specter with his staff, using all his might. A solid blow connects, pushing the undead traitor back, yet he soon recovers and steps forward.
Calder o' the Mask races to the steps with his new sword, and hacks at the back of Morgrin, yet his step is untrue and he misses. The steps are more open at the bottom and allow the comrades access.
Letting Max lead the way, Laila headed up the stairs towards the spirit with a manic grin and an unnerving cackle. Max cuts at the specter but misses in the heat of battle. Slashing at the back of the creature, Laila sees his spectral garb rip and tear, as he howls in pain.
Fr. Bretwald prays silently under his breath. Should the opportunity present itself, he would be glad of a blow against this evil.
With the first sound that you have heard from Lucky since his rebirth, he lets out a loud cry, and almost lopes towards Morgrin, leaping up the steps and launching himself at the specter. He lands on the spirit's back and starts clawing at the evil thing.
Morgrin shrieks to the depths of the earth, and his evil look intensified, strikes at Drystan with a hard blow. The white blade cuts at the Mystic and raises a white steaming wound upon his chest.
