Hi all,

I'm just facing the fact that here in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, it now looks very likely that no roleplaying conventions will run next year. Until quite recently, it wasn't uncommon for four or five to run in a given year - we had Arcanacon in late January (although it wasn't always then), and Conquest at Easter, as the two major cons that had been running for decades and we had smaller cons running as well - Unicon, which started life as a Con by the university roleplaying clubs, Retrocon, Dwarfcon...

For the last few years, we've had three cons - besides Arcanacon and Conquest, Unicon was running. But finding a venue has become harder and harder - Melbourne cons have long tended to use schools as their venues, and changes in the Education department rules and guidelines made schools much less likely to be willing to hire themselves out for these purposes, and the costs have climbed and climbed. For the last couple of years, all three cons had found themselves using the same school as a venue. Unicon had to cancel this year because it could not secure the venue or source an alternative. Arcanacon has now cancelled for next year for the same reason. Conquest - I've heard it's unlikely to run and certainly I'd assume it needs a new venue as well...

From a Dragon Warriors perspective, this is not good. Melbourne's cons, for some reason, had a very strong DW presence. You could easily have two or even three Dragon Warriors events at a convention, where most games got one event. And they seemed popular.

Anyway - all this inspired me to set up this post, which I am going to make 'sticky'. It's intended as a place where DW (or related games - using Legend with another rules set, game based on DW but a radically different setting... I think people understand what related could mean) GMs and players who are interested in the possibility of playing can tell others where they live. It's not really intended as a place to promote a specific campaign, or specifically look for players - there's another subforum for that (and please check it out) rather just a place where people can maybe look and say "Hmmm - maybe there would be enough people nearby").

And to start the ball rolling - I am in Melbourne, Australia (specifically Frankston) and I am definitely interested.

In Hong Kong but not sure I can find the time for it, unless the whole party can assemble in my town.

Adelaide, Australia. Alas I have no rellies in Melbourne and no job-related reason to travel there, so I doubt I'll ever be able to make the trip east to game, as much as I would love to.

Cheers,

-Kyle

We seem to be awfully light on players in the British Isles... consider me one of those. :)

I am also in the UK. We weren't sent to Coventry, we moved there (but only because we had to).
