I'm putting together a band of likelies to explore Yamato.

As this is pretty pristine territory, there's a bit of worldbuilding to do to say the least. There's reskinning of professions to fit concepts, geographying, creatures, and it goes on.

I've asked the players what they want to see in this setting. Early days, yet. One wants to play a Yamabushi (CD Path-Walker), one a Kenshi (his alternate Knight), one a barbaric Shinobi type. Just in – a minor bureaucrat.

What other variants would you think of? A Bonze as a modification of the Priest? The Sorcerer becoming a Shugenja?

What would your must-haves be in this setting? Fresh from Bonivant-Sama's pen is : Seriously, I'd like some politics, intrigue, honour and fights in a pseudo Japanese Feudal Society. What do you think? Is he trying to get me away from Gaki?

Icon the Ungodly (Aiken) is a character from Bloodsword, a Warlock from Yamato, so there is a template there for the Warlock profession.

Looks like Kharille is volunteering to play the sanitation worker...

Lots of corrupt officials Abuse of power and all. I've been reading a lot about the sengoku warring states period, but I figure earlier periods are more relevant. Theres a game, sengoku which is great source material and movie recommendations. Highly recommend that if you get around to it.

From what I can tell, all the best samurai movies take place after Sengoku.

I think you're right that, Kharille. Certainly it's the most tapped...

Today's thought is about Magic.

The Mystic fits well into Yamato. Very well, even.

Other types of magic differently. Perhaps the elementalist could be reskinned as a shugenja – they speak with the kami and request their spells. Sorcerers, I wonder. Warlock, Wayne mentions Bloodsword..

Re - elementalist /shugenja - the elemental axis varies between east and west. Bid farewell to air, and welcome wood and metal. Time to rejig the spell lists?

An edit. The elemental axis shifted to the more traditional (godai) with the onset of Buddhism.

Today's thought is about armour.

The equivalent of plate armour would seem to be o-yoroi, which only started coming into use during the later Heian era. Now, I'm prepared to handwave historical accuracy away, as after all, we are in Legend, and have the below as in game. So, for now my base armour list includes:

keiko, AF1, helmet & sleeveless cloth jacket

iyozane, AF2, a light lamellar

lamellar, AF3

dō-maru, AF4

o-yoroi, AF5

Am I missing anything blindingly obvious?

Which ones? Ghulfang, Varun and Rashang are Erewornian.

Chonmaru, Hiwan and Kalung are Khitan and also are not warlocks.

I'm wondering what I'm missing?

I can't see you're missing anything. The only Warlock ref I can see is Aiken, wot Waybe quotes.
